Tips

The smallest taste of skinny is so much better than the biggest plate of your favorite food!

  1. Pineapple- when you're really craving sweets but trying to stay away from them, a little pineapple goes a long way. I've used pineapple juice to sweeten other juice/drinks like orange julius to have a non-sugar treat.

  2. If you have an itouch there is an app. called myfitnesspal... GREAT app for tracking your food and excercise. If you don't have an itouch have no fear they have a website aswell. Check it out!

  3. If you're on kitchen duty before or after dinner, (which is most days for me) chew a stick of mint gum to help deter sampling while cooking or eating more while you're cleaning up.

  4. It seems like everything I cook is Paula Deen style. I use tons and tons of butter or it's fried. I think I learned that when I was in Nashville and the fact that I am addicted to Paula Deen's cooking. I have had to learn that it's okay that I cook that way, but I need to have veggies or fruit served along with it. I also am becoming VERY aware of portion control. I think Jen's tip was great. I always find myself tasting or grazing as I am cooking. If I were chewing gum it would help a lot.

  6. Great job leaving the ice-cream at the store Harmony!

I had kind of a crazy week and am only down 1/2 lb. I guess at least I didn't gain! Hopefully I will do better this next week!

  7. Jen, as soon as you make me an author, I'll post a picture of the gourmet cupcakes I had to try and avoid last week. I couldn't do it. But, they're gone now (we had some friends over and had them for dessert) so I'm back on track. I'm going to lose this week!!!

  11. "re-gift" treats. I know this sounds crazy, but if someone brings you goodies (ie the snickerdoodle incident) why not just re-gift them? Think of someone you know who could use a pick me up and might not be worried about the calories-run them over and wala! temptation gone AND you did a good deed.

  13. Dirty little confession... sometimes I will try one just so I can thanks they were delicious and then I dump them in the garbage... It's not that I don't appreciate the thought... It's just I know myself...

  16. Something I learned about sugar while I was doing the South-Beach diet was that it doesn't matter the form it comes in (ie. fructose vs. sucrose vs. lactose) a sugar is all your body recognizes. When you eat a "sugar" be sure it has lots of fiber and protien (for example oatmeal) I also learned that sugar acts like heroine in our bodies. If you can get yourself detoxed you can start introducing the good carbs that are fiber and nutrient rich.
