So when you're trying to lose weight and your neighbors bring over a tasty treat- snickerdoodles in this case- to say thank you for something you did for them, what should you do? You should be polite and eat the treat, right? Well- that's exactly what Tyler and I did. We didn't even save any for the kiddos. They tasted sooooo yummy, but only for about a minute. I immediately thought to myself- "Jennifer- you shouldn't have eaten those!" And then for the rest of the day I found myself eating things I shouldn't have and I even almost skipped working out!
Lesson learned: You don't HAVE to eat a treat someone brings you. Let the kids enjoy it instead or save it for your free day. If it won't stay good that long, make yourself a special treat on your free day. Our free day is Sunday after we weigh-in. It helps us not feel so deprived for being good the rest of the week. Also- if you slip up once, you will be more likely to slip up again, so try to avoid it all-together!
I have been known to throw treats in the garbage. Sssh don't tell anyone. But if I taste it and say to myself this is not worth the 200 calories and I know I won't be able to stay away from the sugar I toss it. At first I felt guilty but now I feel good about it. I recognize and am grateful for the effort but know that if I eat it I am going to feel very low about my level of will power so I toss it. No ones the wiser and neither is my waist line. If I eat one then toss I can honestly say thanks they were great and were gone quickly!
ReplyDeleteI find that once i get on the sugar-coaster I can't get off. Once that spike in my glucose happens the crash is inevitable. I almost have to treat treats like a recovering alcoholic would treat booze...not even one taste.
ReplyDeleteI've thrown stuff out too. Dusty hates it so I've started giving him a deadline. If that (insert dessert of choice) isn't gone tonight, I'm throwing it away. He knows he has to get it out of the house, or eat it if he wants it.
